“Hey, where’s X-Men ’97?”

…some of you are probably asking the above question. After all, X-Men ’97 is listed in the “Multiverse Saga” playlist on Disney+, so clearly–at least from a branding standpoint–it’s considered part of the MCU.
And of course, I did watch the show, & like most of you, I loved it, mon ami.

But a big part of this blog is chronology, & X-Men ’97 is, thus far, not connected to the main timeline of the MCU at all. (At least, not yet, anyway.) It’s a direct continuation of the 1992 X-Men: The Animated Series, a show that ended production before the MCU was even a glint in Avi Arad’s eye, & before Kevin Feige even had his first job in Hollywood. The MAU consists of those two shows, along with the 1994 Spider-Man, Fantastic Four, & Iron Man cartoons, and the 1996 Incredible Hulk cartoon. Perhaps in the future, there could be a connection between the MAU & MCU; after all, X-Men ’97 is already renewed for 2 more seasons (& with Bishop & Cable as major characters, time-travel shenanigans have already ensued). If that happens, I’ll gladly go back & write an entry for season 1 as well.

In the meantime, though, this blog is not dead! Later this year, I’ll have entries for Deadpool & Wolverine, Agatha All Along, Eyes of Wakanda, & probably Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man as they each become available for home viewing (that last series is explicitly NOT in the main timeline, but it’s definitely *connected*, given what was already publicly shown about the premise of the show).
2025, of course, will be busier, with Captain America: Brave New World, Thunderbolts*, Fantastic Four, Blade, Daredevil: Born Again season 1, & Ironheart all on the release slate (though I will not be at all shocked if one of those movies gets pushed back to 2026 to make way for Sony to put out Spidey 4).
I’m also thinking about doing the full Fox X-Men film series & the various Sony Spider-Man films, since those are all tangentially tied-in now. Let me know if you think that’s a good idea!

*there’s no footnote; that asterisk is just part of the title
